If you are at one of those places in your life where you really don't know what you want; then reading about how a coach can help probably has you frustrated and thinking "I don't know what I want so how can someone help me get it"?
If you don't know what you want; a coach can actually help you figure it out. Or if you prefer doing it yourself - try this exercise. This works best if you do it with a trusted friend but if you have to do it alone – write it out. For ten minutes (minimum) describe your life in 5 years but in the present tense. In other words, describe where you live, what you do, who you live with, where you vacationed – whatever! Describe it fully but do not use the phrases "I will" or "I hope to" - it is present tense all the way. "I live in..., I work at ..., I have ...". It is fun to do with a friend because you will probably find that you get very engaged and very passionate as you describe it to them. The role of the friend is simply to ask you to clarify what you want exactly, to ask you describe in more detail, and to prompt you about areas of your life that you haven't described. (You can reference the list of life areas in this post ). The role of the friend is not to tell you that you can or can't have what you want, and you must not censor yourself. Do not think "I can't do that". Just describe your life as you want it to be in five years. Once you have your life description - then the fun begins!
